AFRICAN SPORTS RESOURCES

PURPOSE & GOAL:

To fertilize the grassroots of Nigeria’s tomorrow by empowering youth of today through sports and education. Sports gives the youth the voice and encouragement to be successful in whatever they do. With education being number one, we work to instill team work, self discipline, perseverance and provide the tools to help these student athletes stand strong as very productive members of society. Through this program, Nigerian youth will be able to compete on the same collegiate and professional levels with their peers around the world.

Nigeria has a wealth of youthful talent that has not been tapped into. At lmanuel Sports, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow. Through leadership and academic enrichment programs such as mentoring and college preparation, we make sure that every child has an opportunity to envision a positive future and to take an active role in strengthening the community.

TOY DRIVE

PURPOSE & GOAL:

The toy drive serves to provide impoverished children with the spirit of Christmas, which is the joy of gift-giving. We became inspired to act on this special task when the American economy plummeted into a recession seven years ago. As many families struggled to afford the basics, their children were left distressed without the small delights in life, like receiving a toy, game, or book during the holidays. We gathered our network and diligently worked to provide them with these little joys during the Christmas season. At our annual Christmas Charity Event, we request that our guests donate unopened and unused educational toys, games, dolls, or children’s books. We also promote our sponsors while furnishing a networking atmosphere.

This event is co-organized with HOLIDAZED GROUP which is a Houston based Foundation that is dedicated to giving back to the community as well as networking professionally. Each year, we host a Charity Event that is geared towards sponsoring various charities, such as Toys for Tots, Fountain of Praise Church, Texas Children’s Hospital and Child Protective Services. During our events, young professionals of Houston gather to network and socialize in a positive atmosphere.

CULTURAL TOUR

PURPOSE & GOAL:

Imanuel Way a Cross-Cultural Studies Program that enables children between the ages of 7 to 17 to comprehend the operationalization of various global cultures that exist and operate in the Houston, TX area. The children in our program are from culturally diverse backgrounds. Our curriculum consists of a multitude of educational field trips to cultural exhibits, museums, community centers and more. Ultimately, we equip our Imanuel Way kids with the tools to bridge the cultural gap of understanding by acknowledging and appreciating the distinct value of varied ethnicities, perceptions and nationalities.

LET’S MOVE

PURPOSE & GOAL:

Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height. Childhood obesity is particularly troubling becasue the extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Childhood obesity can also lead to poor self-esteem and depressions. One of the best strategies to reduce childhood obesity is to improve the diet and exercise habits of your entire family.

Becasue childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years Imanuel Way hosts its annual Let’s Move – Houston event in various low income communities around the Houston area. Let’s Move Houston is the local extension of theNational White House Let’s Move Initiative headed former First Lady Michelle Obama.

This event serves as a platform to engage families in conversations surrounding health, provide education, and exposure to active lifestyles that will help them make informed choices about their well-being.

GIRL POWER

PURPOSE & GOAL:

Girl Power! is a 9-week grassroots summit connecting teenage girls across the Greater Houston area with women making a difference in the areas of technology, media, law, health and wellness, medicine, entertainment, education and personal growth and development among others.

This summit empowers young ladies to positively build on their past and tap into their full potential. The young ladies participate in interactive workshop, panel discussions and live entertainment. They are challenged to take “on the spot” actions that develop, not only their sense of self, but also the competencies necessary to boost their confidence and propel them forward. Following Girl Power! the young ladies have an opportunity to sign-up for services and programs with partner organizations that provide ongoing training and support.

BASKETBALL CAMP

PURPOSE & GOAL:

This six week Summer League focuses on developing a well-rounded adolescent for today’s society. With the increasing amount of crime and violence in the Houston area, our youth need an outlet to express their feeling and emotions. Our Summer League incorporates the teaching of basketball as well as provides community service opportunities each week. As a bonus, we have motivational speakers from various professional industries inspire the youth during our half time breaks. With our talented, experienced and dedicated staff, we work with kids 9-11 years old helping them to enhance their basketball skill set as well as build their character, self-esteem and moral values.

We make this league free to all individuals that wish to participate and provide the necessary facilities, equipment and opportunity to succeed. Please inquire about sponsorship as this helps to keep the league effective and affordable while also supporting Iman Sports with t-shirts, uniforms, prizes, equipment and facility expenses.
